Even in remote areas without telephone network coverage, the tw700 makes it possible to communicate with fellow tour members: As a walkie-talkie (PMR 446 standard) it can be used like a radio within the European Union and in many other countries, free of charge and without the need for a license. This means that groups can remain in contact even if there is no longer adequate mobile network coverage.

Radio
Thanks to its walkie-talkie function, the tw700 is suitable for license- and cost-free communication within the EU and many other countries. It supports eight channels and 38 sub-tones to ensure
interference-free calls – a really useful feature in areas without mobile network coverage.
Maximum reception
The tw700’s flip-out antenna ensures reception over a wide area on every trip. If required, it can be folded out easily.

Topographical maps
The term Topographical maps describes very detailed maps that depict terrain features and other visible landmarks. This typically also involves displaying the area with contour lines. Topographical maps are raster maps i.e. image files of the underlying maps.
These high-quality maps enable experienced users to navigate safely in any terrain. Also, they ensure reliable navigation with the tw700, with the familiar appearance of paper-based walking maps.
Thanks to the takwak map model, topographical maps specific to the required regions can be downloaded as inexpensive map tiles measuring approximately 100 x 70 kilometers. Due to the tw700’s mobile telephony and internet interfaces, this is even possible while out and about. This means that takwak users remain flexible if their plans change suddenly.
The attractively priced topographical map tiles are available for numerous countries and regions (e.g. € 3.99 per map tile for Germany, Austria, Switzerland; prices of other regions may vary).
OpenStreetMap
The free-of-charge OpenStreetMaps are based on a wiki-like collection of freely usable geodata. Every day, legions of volunteer helpers collect new data with the result that OSM map coverage in many countries already is very good and improving at breakneck speed. OpenStreetMaps are vector maps, digital data; the tw700 is also capable of calculating routes that are optimised for the car, bicycle or pedestrian on these maps.
Together with the OpenStreetMaps, the tw700 can be used as a navigational device in almost every region of the world.
The tw700 comes with a microSD card, with OSM maps pre-installed for Germany, Austria and Switzerland as well as the UK and Northern Italy. This means that you can get started as soon as the battery has been charged. Other countries and regions can be downloaded to the tw700 free of charge from the twO software. takwak offers its customers the OSM map material in regularly updated form for downloading with the tw700. The download can be done via Wifi at home or when out and about.
